Exercises for Married Couples and those in Exclusive Relationships:
- (Couple Project): Take some time together this week to discuss the emotional needs you have and how you need them to be met in your marriage relationship. Perhaps make this a “Date Night” focus of discussion.
- (Couple Project): Humans were created with an innate need for companionship. The need for closeness, friendship, belonging, and love. Discuss with your spouse your “recommitment” to a more intimate marriage relationship as an act of love to them.
- (Couple Project): Take some time together this week to discuss areas in your relationship where you may be vulnerable to feelings of mistrust or control that negatively affect, or could potentially affect, the level of trust in your relationship.
- (Individual Assignment): Give special time praying this week for God’s help in healing areas in your personal life where you may be hiding secret motives, intentions, or emotions that if it would come to light, would kill trust, and ruin your relationship.
- (Special Project): Reach out to a Pastor, Minister, or Counselor to discuss any areas individually, or as a couple, that may be hindering the ability to experience trust in your relationship which is now harming, or could potentially ruin, the relationship between you and your spouse.
A Prayer for You:
Dear heavenly Father, we know you created us with an innate need for companionship. The need for closeness, friendship, belonging, and love. We know these needs for belonging must be met for us to enjoy an intimate relationship with our spouses and others. Help me to take the focus off my spouse not meeting my emotional needs, but to consider how I may satisfy my spouse’s needs first. Help us to honor you with our marriage. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
